 Through a series of videos, power points, and discussion blogs, this course will provide students with a comprehensive overview of various features concerning English speaking cultures while also exploring historical roots, political developments and international influences. The goal is to achieve the following course objectives:

 Building self-confidence toward learning various English styles.  Developing fluency and coherence through cultural speaking activities.  Improving vocabulary from an international perspective.  Improving the ability to understand a variety of global English in different settings.  Promoting critical thinking skills.

1. Participation – %: This includes all homework, quizzes, behavior, and attendance. 2. Midterm: % 3. Final: % Total: %

***Your final exam will have 100 questions. This exam covers all the material which must be studied completely. If you miss a class, this will probably affect your grade.

Three hour split classes like this class are very difficult. This class is three hours a week. Two hours on Tuesday and one hour at 9:30 Wednesday morning. If you are late or miss class on Wednesday morning, then you will be late for the whole week. This means that you cannot be late Tuesday or Wednesday. I will take attendance on both Tuesday and Wednesday. This is important to remember.

This class will have many group projects which will be 30% of your grade. Every member of the group must help finish the project. You must work together as a team. This is very important for your final grade.

 You must attend and participate in all in- class activities.  You must complete all required homework exercises, PPT, and any related assignments both in class and on the instructors website.  Complete both the mid-term and final exam.

 Based on a RELATIVE SCALE  A’s: 30% (+/-10%)  B’s: 70% (+/10%)  C’s/D’s/F: 100%  Please see the class syllabus for more details.

Your behavior can be the difference between an “A” or “B” grade. What is Good Behavior? 1. Being On Time 2. Not Talking While I’m talking. 3. Not Using Your Cell Phone in Class Unless I Say It’s OK. 4. Listening and Following Directions.

This class has a total of two exams :  Midterm  Final a) Missing any of the exams results in an b) automatic F for the class. Makeup exams will be allowed in case of excused reasons but TEN points will be deducted.

 More than 4 UNEXCUSED absences will result in a grade of FAIL.  Students late for more than the first10 minutes or class will be tardy.  3 times late = 1 UNEXCUSED absence.

***You must contact myself and the registration office if you are changing classes.

I will need a classroom assistant this semester. The Duties of a classroom assistant include: 1. Turn on computer, set up projector screen and turn on speaker before the start of class, (when needed). Equipment will need to be turned off after every class. 2. Obtain contact information from all students in the class and relay any important announcements made by me, such as last minute class delays or cancellations. 3. Erase whiteboards at the conclusion of each class.
