Students and Projects Daniel, James & Corey – Immersive BIM Lacey Duckworth – BIM and Code Compliance Cara Percey – BIM and Construction Management Isaiah Williams – BIM and Tele-Engineering Lewis Jones – BIM Video Creation and Editing

Open Source Immersive BIM Environment Team James Ross, Daniel Comeaux M.S. Computer Science students Sample Projects

Immersive BIM Objective To give the user a realistic experience in a virtual environment. Create ability to interact with BIM objects in the environment as well a pull up information about the object being touched. Pictures – mockups – other examples

Immersive BIM Milestones

1.) Successfully incorporate a simple model into the virtual reality environment 2.) Interact with the model by opening doors and clicking on the walls for their information 3.) Integrate the VR Goggles into the VR environment and be able to move through it. 4.) Display the information about the exterior and interior walls as a hud. 5.)Fully import a BIM wall into the environment as well as the information about it. 6.) Import an actual BIM into the virtual environment and have ability to examine components of model for information.

Immersive BIM Tools Needed Screens and glasses Open Source VR Technology

Potential Benefits of Immersive BIM Write stuff here – faster and more accurate virtual design

Fostering Construction Management Implementation of BIM at Engineering Research Development Centers Cara Percy  Bs. Architectural Engineering Technology  Current Masters Student, Construction Management Sample Work Capstone ProjectModeling & Animation

Fostering Construction Management Implementation of BIM Curriculum to help ERDC’s roll-out the wider use of BIM  Focusing on the implementation in Construction Management Time Management Cost Management Quality Management Safety Management

Fostering Construction Management Implementation of BIM Manual Workshops  At regional meetings Webpage

Potential Benefits of Implementation of BIM in Construction Management Reduce Time  Fewer RFI’s  Field Coordination Reduce Cost  Increase Return  Productivity Improvement Improve Quality Control  Improved accuracy Overall Increased Clarity

Retrieving BIM Information on the Battlefield Corey Berry B.S. in Computer Science with Minor in Software Engineering Sample Project History

Retrieving BIM Information on the Battlefield Help soldiers retrieve BIM information “on-the- fly” through Heads Up Displays [HUD] Use RFID and Soldier’s heading to calculate position in the building Retrieve information with voice or eye movement commands.

Retrieving BIM Information on the Battlefield When within 50 feet of a building the soldier will receive a signal from the RFID chip inside of the building. The signal will contain vital BIM data that will be used to gain more information about the building before the soldier enters it.

Potential Benefits of Retrieving BIM Information on the Battlefield Advanced Battlefield knowledge and command Implementation into Future war-fighter project.

Virtual BIM Code Compliance Lacey Duckworth Currently PHD student in Computer Science Sample Projects

Virtual BIM Code Compliance Objectives Tool to compare BIM models against standard code specifications Lists problems found Virtual walk-through of BIM models with pop- ups of properties and relevant codes.

Virtual BIM Code Compliance Approach Import BIM models into VR Object Oriented external compliance engine Create pop-up and compliance list in VR

Potential Benefits of Virtual BIM Code Compliance Better code compliance in advance of construction Saved money through fewer errors

BIM Tele-Engineering Isaiah Williams Currently Master’s student in Computer Science Sample Projects

BIM Tele-Engineering Objectives Allow engineers world-wide to include walk- through and annotate VR BIM models in regular teleconferences

BIM Tele-Engineering Approach Survey and understand current ACE teleconference methodology Add functionality to allow BIM models to be loaded, viewed and changed in teleconference

Potential Benefits of BIM Tele-Engineering Less travel

Presenting 5D BIMs Using a Specialized Video Editing Tool Lewis F. Jones III BS in Computer Science Currently a Masters Student in Computer Science Sample Project Work:

Presenting 5D BIMs Objectives Design a specialized video editing tool for 5D BIM demo and promotional videos Make the process of piecing together a video quick and easy by doing most of the work for the user Make demos and promotional videos more interesting to potential funders

Presenting 5D BIMs Approach Design the video editing tool as a plug-in to an open- source video editor Be able to import 5D BIMs and generate fly-throughs and statistical overlay displays in videos with a few clicks of the mouse Also be able to record voice-overs Keeping the tool quick and easy to use is key.

Presenting 5D BIMs Potential Benefits Tool will do most of the video creation and editing for the user No need to spend hours recording and organizing screen captures Easy to use by narrowing down most options into only a few mouse clicks Simple user interface Make demos and promotional videos more interesting Potential funders would be more impressed and therefore more likely to follow through with a project
