The Leadership Academy is a place where leaders, and those in leadership positions, can learn the latest thinking in educational leadership from some of the best people in the business.

Our purpose is to prepare and support educators who are leaders or want to improve their leadership skills. The demand for effective leaders and leadership grows daily. To meet these demands we have created a program that supports and promotes professional development that will enable you to promote student learning and academic growth.

Our staff consists of Principles, Vice Principles, and teachers who have complete this course along with additional courses to become highly qualified to teach you what they have learned. They are committed to help tap into your talents and aspire you to reach beyond your comfort zone. We feel by maximizing your potential, you will become strong effective leader.

Collaborate, learn and network with other highly committed people from your district. Develop the skills and strategies to learn how to become an effective leader. Become a highly qualified leader. Increase knowledge of instructional strategies/resources. Learn to reflect. Earn 2 college credit towards your certification.

A classroom teacher with three years of experience. A teacher who demonstrates effective classroom practices. A teacher with a sustained commitment toward professional growth. A Principle or Vice Principle with three years of experience. Note: You must be in our district to participate in our programs.

There is no cost to you! Grants and funding cover all costs. If you are interested in attending then complete our application found at the Board of Education. Mr. Dorsey in Human Resources will gladly assist you if needed. But hurry! The application needs to be completed no later than June 15 th, All applications will be reviewed and we will contact you by June 26 th in reference to your acceptance.

This program will last 5 days. You will be experiencing in depth sessions that will begin on July 20 th, 2009 and end July 24 th, You have everything to gain and nothing to lose by attending our “boot camp”. Come and learn the skills needed to be an effective leader and build your confidence to lead others. For those who want to pursue a career in administration you will be given the opportunity to fill a position in our district as soon as it become available.

Introduction to leadership and various leadership styles. Learn how to become a better communicator and listener. Build inspiration for those who are committed to teaching and learning. Learn where to find the resources needed to build and foster strong school environments. Learn how to maximize learning and build strong relationships with teachers, staff, students, parents and all other organizations that foster learning. Learn more about ethics in the school environment. Learn how to plan for change.

Those you don’t want to inspire others, motivate others or learn about new ways to become an effective leader then this program is not for you! When you participate in our activities you will learn not only how to become a become an effective leader but a leader who others want to follow.

What are the personal qualities/characteristics of a effective leader (Pg 16 and 17) You will learn why a good leader must be trustworthy to lead others. A leader needs to be trusted and live their live with honesty and integrity. By being a leader who “walks the talk” you will earn the right to have responsibility of others. True authority is born no given to you.

You will learn why a good leader needs to be enthusiastic and why people respond to someone who is passionate, dedicated and inspirational. When you become part of the team others will follow and support your decisions.

To be a leader you must have confidence. Our program will teach how a leader who conveys confidence inspires the best from team members.

You will learn how to function in a purposeful manner in situations of uncertainty. People look to the leader during times of uncertainty and unfamiliarity and find reassurance and security when the leader portrays confidence and a positive demeanor.

You will learn why it is important to be tolerant, calm, composed and steadfast to the main purpose. How you keep a cool head when handling a and keeping your emotions under control is vital part of your position when the journey gets bumpy. crisis, keep your emotions under control is important.

You will learn how to think analytical. A good leader needs to know how to break things down into sub parts for closer inspection. Making manageable parts and make progress towards these parts.

Learn how being committed to excellence is vital to achieve excellence in all areas. Good leaders raise the bar to achieve excellence in all areas. Second best does not lead others.

These seven personal characteristics are foundational to good leadership. Some characteristics may be more naturally present in the personality of a leader. However, each of these characteristics can also be developed and strengthened. A good leader whether they naturally possess these qualities or not, will be diligent to consistently develop and strengthen them in their leadership role.
