3 WHAT IS EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE?
Emotional Intelligence is the ability to accurately perceive your own and others emotions; to understand the signals that emotions send about relationships; and the ability to manage your own and others emotions. Relatively new concept coined in the 1990s First comprehensive theory by Salavoy and Mayer in 1990 Popularised by the book by Daniel Goleman, Emotional Intelligence: Why it can matter more than IQ

There are generally considered to be 5 components to Emotional Intelligence. Self Awareness Self Regulation Motivation Empathy Social Skills

Recognising your weaknesses and strengths Understanding what drives you Remembrance of and learning from past mistakes in order to make better choices

Social skills range from showing respect and expressing appreciation for others being able to work and communicate well with others listening to others ideas demonstrating appropriate behaviour conflict resolution In learning these skills we can improve our ability to communicate and positively influence others we earn trust, loyalty and support we are better able to manage conflict and promote cooperation.
