1.- It was far harsher than expected - War Guilt Clause: hated - USA afraid it would lead to more bitterness - Some GB politicians worried that their economic survival depended on G’s recovery Small: few rooms - Thatch or turf roof - Earth/dirt floor made house cold - Houses sometimes shared with animals 3. - Weimar Republic - Economic Problems: Wall Street Crash - Hitler’s appeal - Fear/Intimidation

The miner and the coal both reached the surface in a bucket pulled by a simple man- operated winch.

Used to drain away from the coal face and prevent flooding. In both these types of mines stairs or ladders were used to reach the surface. Coal would be carried on backs of miners.
