Michael Kenna

One of my favorite photographers is Michael Kenna, but who is Michael Kenna? Michael Kenna was born on He is an English photographer and is best know for his incredible Black and White landscapes. He when to London collage of communication and also St Joseph's College. Michael’s work has appeared on many ads, book covers, posters, and calendars. His style is mostly black and white photos. I think that this is a great style because I enjoy black and white photos my self. He not only takes black and white photos but also takes landscape photos at the same time. This is a very interesting combo, black and white with a landscape. Michael was inspired when he was an eleven year old boy. He first wanted to become a priest but then decided that he didn’t want to be a priest. He realized that he was really good at painting and decided to take a school of art and later on discovered photography. Michael enjoys taking photos mostly by night and not by day, but he use to take photos in the early morning. Biography

Huangshan 2010 – Anhuit, china.

The center of interest in this photograph is located on the main mountains. I think that the frame that Michael used was the mountains in the front because it covers some of the other mountains that are on the way. I think that he used the most important parts on this photo and there are no wasted parts because it all makes sense. I believe that the background in this photo adds on because the front of the picture is black and the background is white. This makes it look like it is fading from black to white. I think that the light is exposed correctly and that it makes it look much better, this is also focused and clear. I really like this photo because it would be nice to visit this great place and makes you think how it would be in that area. If I could change something different about this photo I would change nothing at all because its just a nice great landscape picture. I selected this photo because it contained an effect that goes from black to white and looks really awesome.

Tuileries 1987 – Paris, France.

The first thing I noticed was the long sidewalk with fog. This photo has the central point located on the sidewalk view. The photographer got a nice distance on the street lamps and made them look like a long sidewalk. He included the most important parts of this photo. The elements in this photo are used multiple times but it makes it look natural. The background is great and looks nice. It adds an extra effect and makes it look like there is no one around. This photo contains the famous rule of thirds. I enjoy this photo because it contains fog in the background. Photos that contain fog are the photos I enjoy the most and the best. I picked this photo because fog pictures are the best pictures I have ever seen.

Schmidt Mines 2010 – Westerwald, Germany.

The lighting in this photo is natural because it was taken out side in Germany. The direction of this natural light is coming from the background and the left side of the photo. I like how the lighting is located on the background and makes the trees pop out. The main subject from this photograph is the water fall and trees. I can tell because the water fall takes up most of the photo and so do the trees. I think that the composition in this photo is lighting and lines. The reason I think that is because the photograph has perfect trees in a line and the lighting is the most important part of this photo. I think that the photographer is trying to show what is going on to the earth and how the waterfall is destroying the ground. I chose this photo because it looked interesting for someone else to look at and examine.

Popocatepetl Volcano 2006 – Mexico city, Mexico.

The lighting used in this photo is natural light because it is located out side in mexico. The light is mostly coming from the top of the volcano. I really like how the volcano is the one that has more light on it and the city has less than the volcano. The main subject of this photo is the volcano next to the city. The reason I think this is because the central of this photo is the volcano and part of the city. I think that the main composition in this photo is rule of thirds because the top of the photo is the volcano, small mountains, and the clouds. The bottom part of the picture is just the city view. I think the author is trying to express how the volcano is bigger than the city. I selected this photo because it contained the black and white effect but also had something interesting in the background.

Willamette Pier 2005 – Portland, Oregon.

Some of this light is artificial but some of it is natural. The lights in the back shine on the water and the moon light shines on the poles in the central. The artificial light made the photograph look better along with the bridge. The main subject of this photo is the poles in the middle but also the water next to the bridge. I can tell because the poles are in the central of the photo and they are also stuck in the water. I think that the composition of this photo is the texture because the rocks look like you can feel them and the water looks all nice and smooth from the ruff rocks. I think that the photographer is trying to show how this great city looks at night. I selected this photo because I really enjoy calm water and cities at night and this photo has it all.
