Our Important Facts About Oz About one third of the world’s wool comes from Australia. Oz is a country and a continent. The largest city in Oz is Sydney. The three main biomes are desert, grassland, and rainforest. In Oz one of the largest farms called a station is as big as Michigan

Map and Facts One of the most famous landmarks in Australia is called Uluru. Australia is the smallest continent. One of Australia’s states is an island called Tasmania.

Flag and Facts The Union Jack is in the upper left hand corner of the flag. The small white stars are the Southern Cross which can always be seen at night. It is called the Commonwealth Blue Ensign.

Aborigines and Facts The aborigines thought that spirits created the earth. Aborigines have lived in Australia for over 40,000 years. They built shelters out of tree branches.

Alice Springs Alice Springs has a population of 22,000 people. Alice Springs has had the most tourists during their long hot winter (May to September). Alice Springs was settled in 1871.

Rock Art The Aborigines passed down stories thru their rock art. The Aborigines thought that Mimi spirits painted the pictures found on the walls of caves in Australia.

Bark Art The Aborigines use eucalyptus tree bark to paint on during the rainy seasons. The colors that the aborigines use on the Bark art are red, yellow, black, brown, and white.

Dot Art Aborigines use dot art to tell about the dreamtime stories. Dot art is like a map of what happened in a story. Aborigines use icons and repeated lines and dots in there dot art.

A Cockatoo There are many different species of the cockatoo. Their colors are white, pink, yellow, gray, and black. The cockatoo eats grass seeds, berries, and nuts. A cockatoo can get about 12 to 15 inches long.

I hope you have learned a lot about Australia. Our favorite place that we visited was Alice Springs. I hope we can visit Oz again some day. I hope you have learned a lot from our journey to Oz.
