Australia is the largest island in the world. The cities are on the coast. On the west coast there is Perth, while on the east coast there are: Brisbane, Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne. In the inland there is the desert, it is called the “Outback”.

The Aborigines are the original people in Australia and they have lived here for 60.000 years. They came from Asia and they were nomads. The name of the aborigines life was the “walkabout”.

Some important places are: THE GREAT BARRIER REEF:the largest natural structure in the world. ULURU: in the northern territory.

KAKADU NATIONAL PARK: near Darwin. It has beautiful scenery and galleries of aboriginal rock art. BAROSSA, MCLAREN VALE AND CLARE VALLEY: important wine-growing areas.

NEW SOUTH WALES/WESTERN AUSTRALIA: koala bears live in the red kangaroos live in mountains the desert

FLAG OF THE ABORIGINES: It’s black and red with a yellow circle, it represents the sun. FLAG OF AUSTRALIA: The small Union Jack represents the historical link with Britain. The large seven-pointed star represents the States and Territories. The small stars from the Southern Cross in the southern hemisphere night sky…

TROPICAL (north) The are two main seasons THE WET SEASON: in the north (30-50°) THE DRY SEASON: In the north (20°) The CENTRE of Australia is DRY because of the desert: it is very hot during the day and very cold at night. TEMPERATE In the SOUTH the temperature is changeable (30° in summer and 15° in winter).
