Rubbish and Recycling By Olivia and Alexa

Introduction In this research project I will talk about some of the causes of to much rubbish in the landfill; people to lazy to recycle, to many plastic bags in the landfill, the population growth is too many people. I will identify the effects of rubbish and recycling; one day all landfills will be full, soon we’ll have to put landfills in backyards, pollution like chemicals ,leachate and plastic bags that takes 30 years to break down. I will discuss some of the solutions already in place; they’ve got more cloth bags instead of plastic bag, and recycling things as in paper , plastic , cans and glass. The last things I will talk about are solutions and what we can do to help.

Recycling This paragraph is about recycling. Lots of things can be recycled like paper , plastic , glass and glass. The things that are in the landfill so far are 4 % of paper , 67 % of plastic , 13 % of organic , 5 % of metal , 2 % of glass , 2 % of concrete , 4 % of timber and 3 % of other. You can recycle numbers 1-7 of plastic and put it in your recycling bin. The number 1-7 will be in a triangle at the bottom of the bottle. You can also recycle all sorts of paper like cardboard.

How Long Does It Take For Rubbish To BreakDown In The Landfill In New Zealand all of our rubbish is buried in landfill sites. The problem is that there’s not enough existing landfills to handle the increasing amount of rubbish that we are throwing away. There is an increasing resistance developing high standard landfills. We need landfills to manage some of our rubbish. Over half of the rubbish put into your rubbish bags can be recycled or composted. More composting and recycling the less we will need landfills to provide a solution to our rubbish. Our actions will decide the issue . We can all make a difference by taking some easy steps to reduce our rubbish. Rubbish doesn’t break down easily on landfills. Plastic , steel , aluminium even paper and cardboard might take up to ten or hundreds of years just to break down. If there’s no other option for dealing with rubbish a modern designed and operated landfill is a reasonable option for managing our rubbish.

Landfills This paragraph is about landfills. Landfills are very full. Did you know that it takes 30 years for plastic bags break down in landfills. Landfills have lots of things that don’t really need to be there. Lots of chemicals come from rubbish. Landfills have 67 % of plastic including plastic bags. Another effect is that rubbish in the landfill causes pollution and chemicals plus leachate. Leachate is black polluted water that comes from rubbish. It would be a problem if the leachate got into our water supply because it is poisonous. They collect the gas which comes off the rubbish and turn it into electricity. Auckland sends 1.2 million tonnes of rubbish to the landfill every year. This is too much!

Solutions One of the solution is they have more cloth bags in shops instead of plastic bags. Recycling paragraph

What we can do Look at the bottom to see if it has a triangle 1-7 Use cloth bags Buy more recyclable things Think before you buy Tell your parents to buy recyclable things Recycle all of your paper
