Introduction In this project we will talk about some of the causes of plastic bags.1 people are not recycling.2.No one buys green bags( you have to pay for green bags, plastic bags are free.) We will also identify the EFFECTS of to many in the landfill.1. It is in the environment for 15 years.2. It has pollution & chemicals in it. The last thing we will talk about are solutions where all of us can help.

Interesting facts Each tonne of recycled paper can save 17 trees, early a whole forest (or a small piece of land)1,438 litres of oil. We could run a lot of cars. 3 cubic metres of landfill, a lot of rubbish. 4,000 kilowatts of energy, I could watched T.V for a long time and 26,500 litres of water, you see!!!It saves a lot, so recycle that tonne of paper. litres of oil. (Did you know in the picture below in the water there are 17 billion plastic bags. WOW)

One of the causes of too much rubbish in the landfill are people are NOT recycling !!! 55% garden/kitchen waste can be composted. 21% paper can be recycled. 5% glass you can recycle. 8% plastics can be recycled. 4% metal can be recycled. 7% other things can be recycled. That is a typical New Zealanders household rubbish bag. Yes did you know a rubbish bag could contain up to 93% recyclable materials. WOW. EVERYONE should recycle!

Another cause of too much rubbish in the landfill is No one buys green bags. You have to pay for green bags plastic bags are free.) Did you know that in Australia shoppers are encouraged to buy green bags. People don't want to spend their money on green bags. (some people just want to spend their money on lollies.) absolutely horrible! Am I right or what!

One of the EFFECTS of to much rubbish in the landfill is It is in the environment for 15 years. Did you know that plastic bags take 15 years to break down. Wow! Our own New Zealand is one of the top rubbish produces next to U.S.A,UK and Australia. 80% of what we produce we throw away. In Auckland 800kgs of rubbish is disposed per person every year. New Zealanders dispose of a whopping 800,000,000 plastic bags each year. That is 22,000,000 plastic bags in a week.

Another of the EFFECTS of to much rubbish in the landfill is the pollution & chemicals. Plastic bags pollute the earth because they are made for chemicals. When we throw away plastic bags, they are in the environment for a long time. By the time I am 15 all my plastic bags would have dissolved.

Reducing is not a waste of time it saves the environment. One of the things you need to do is put a no junk mail sign on your mail box and phone up companies and ask to be removed from their mailing lists. So reducing is not a waste of time. See!!!

Australia – In Australia, shoppers are encouraged to buy green bags. Taiwan-Plastic bags are banned in Taiwan See countries are already talking about it and taking charge. We can too!!! Don’t use plastic bags and try buy reusable things. Australian government made a plastic 10 dollar note.
