Paper Recycling Helps the WORLD

What is Recycling? Recycling happens when old, discarded materials are used again to make other new products. For example, we can recycle used paper by placing the used paper in a special bin or container. Eventually, the paper can be made new to be used for to make paper products again.

Why Is Recycling Important? Recycling is a good practice because doing it helps everybody. It is one of the best ways to make a positive impact on the earth and the world in which we all live. The really good thing about recycling is that anybody can do it!

What Happens When You Recycle? When you recycle a product, the product will start in the recycle loop. The recycle loop symbol has three curving arrows.

The arrows stand for the three steps in the recycling process. 1.Collecting the materials that can be recycled 2.Turning the materials into something new 3.Buying materials made from things that would have been trash or thrown away The Steps

What are the Benefits of Recycling of Paper? Recycling or making products from old material lowers the amount of energy it would take to make a brand new product. It takes less energy to recycle paper than it does to cut down a tree and make brand new paper. Recycling Paper Saves on Energy Dangerous chemicals and greenhouse fumes are released from trash and waste products sitting in landfills. The more we re-use paper, the less paper that will go to the landfills. Less trash in the landfills means less waste to make harmful greenhouse gas. Recycling Paper Reduces Pollution Caused by Waste

What are the Benefits of Recycling of Paper? The destruction of habitats and forests happen when brand new products are made. When forests and other natural environments are destroyed, global warming happens. Global warming happens when the Earth is getting too warm because of what is happening in the environment. Paper is made out of trees. Recycling Paper means fewer trees being cut down. T Recycling Paper Reduces the Need for Raw Materials Such as Trees. Rainforest Can Be Saved

What are the Benefits of Recycling? When we recycle paper we help the earth. Because we all live on the same earth, when we do a good thing for the earth, it is a good thing for all of us. Recycling paper is a way to care for the environment and for people we don’t even know. Recycling Paper Helps Everybody in the World

What are the Benefits of Recycling Paper? Natural resources include things like trees and water. When we recycle paper, we protect our natural resources. For example, paper is made from trees. When we recycle paper, fewer trees are cut down. It also takes other resources such as energy and water to make paper. The less paper we make, the less energy, trees and water we use. Recycling Paper Slows Down the Use of Natural Resources

What are the Benefits of Recycling Paper? Landfills require land space. If there is too much trash, then there will be no space to put all of the trash. Recycling paper materials means less trash to go into the landfill. Recycling Paper Saves Space

What Materials Can Be Recycled? Paper Glass Cardboard Aluminum & Steel Cans Plastic bottles Different Kinds of Metals Recycling One Ton of Paper Would Reduce Energy, Landfill Space, & Green House Gases Save enough energy to power the average American home for 6 months Save 7,000 gallons of water Save 3.3 cubic yards of landfill space Reduce greenhouse gas emissions by one metric ton of carbon equivalent http://www.epa.gov/osw/conserve/materials/paper/basics/#benefits

What Materials Can Be Recycled? Paper Glass Cardboard Aluminum & Steel Cans Plastic bottles Different Kinds of Metals Recycling One Ton of Paper Would Reduce Lumber and Oil Use and Cut Pollution Conserves the equivalent of 17 trees worth of lumber Saves 11 barrels -- 462 – Gallons of Oil Cuts Pollution by 95% http://www.epa.gov/osw/conserve/materials/paper/basics/#benefits
