Objectives  Define direct and indirect characterization  Identify methods used in indirect characterization  Use context clues to infer word meanings

Common Core Standards  RL Cite strong and thorough evidence to support analysis of what the text says explicitly as well as inferences drawn from the text, including determining where the text leaves matters uncertain. L a Use context as a clue to the meanings of a word or phrase.

Bell Work  Imagine your best friend or a person you greatly admire.  Write down three sentence illustrating qualities that you like or admire about this person (use specific character traits or examples of what they have said or done).  Be prepared to share your answers.
