Efficient actions to encourage riding in Reunion Island

Mountain bike in Reunion Island It is possible to ride through the tamarinds forest, fields of sugar cane, river beds, sand paths, volcanic rocks,... There are about 1000 km of tracks in Reunion Island, mountain biking and 7 spots. Mister BIDET has developed mountain biking tracks for different levels. You should get informed before going for a ride. The Local Cycling Program: actions to encourage riding The Local Cycling Program plays a great part to get biking at the upper place as far as means of transportation are concerned and turns Reunion Island into a cyclists island. First, the Local Program looks for real facts: Commute to school or to work places take place into the town itself (there is no need to get outside the town); School trips or dropping kids off at school represent a new generation of cyclists to train today. The use of bicycles for recreation and promenade: a challenge to educate new cyclists. Looking for coherence across the island, with a strong involvement of partners.

The partners of local actions are : The steering committee of PRV is provided by the Region: it adjusts the actions planning to be taken annually and submit to the Committee Steering PRV (COPIL); it carries out monitoring and evaluation of actions and submits the results to COPIL; it prepares bodies in order to share know-how; it sets up the COPIL sessions. A Steering Committee was set up to enable the different actors involved in biking the possibility to participate in the process: it discusses proposals for the actions to initiate and to coordinate; it provides means to monitor and evaluate actions; it coordinates the events "for all" to promote cycling; it submits proposals to initiate new actions to include in the multiannual program.

Associated partners for cycling IEB, General Council, The Reunion Island Tourism, National Park Reunion The EPCI, The Commons.
