6 Healthy Kids Winter Carnival- “Run. Jump. Play. On a winter day.” Objectives- Major promotion of the Challenge, promote outdoor family activities, highlight programs, provide healthy food during a larger community event Description- Work with all challenge partners to offer fun, healthy outdoor activities, and healthy food at a new outdoor winter event in conjunction with City Council. Funding for activities, equipment, food, transportation, advertising, staffing, signage/ site prep. Total amount- $23,000 Reach- 500+ people Lead: CGS Leisure Services Partners: Sports and rec. providers, SDHU, community partners.

7 Active Neighbourhood Families Events Objectives- Neighbourhood engagement, capacity building, education, fun Description- Neighbourhood groups (established or informal) will host events to bring families together in neighbourhood settings for active family fun. HKCC will provide organizational/ logistical support, promotion, equipment, funding for snacks, insurance if required) Funding for equipment, insurance, snacks, signage, staff support (placement students), equipment storage and transport Funding- Jan to June $52,410 Reach- 100 events (January-June) 2000 people Lead: CGS Children Services Partners: Libraries, Student Placements, CSCGS, Playground Associations, Community Action Networks, Neighbourhood Teams and other Community Organizations.

9 Walk, Bike and Roll Where you want to go! Supporting Active Transportation Objectives- Support and encourage active transportation, pilot feasibility of walking school bus as an alternative to bussing. Description- Promote Active Transportation to school and in the community. Identify 3 routes to pilot a formal walking school bus with trained/ paid staff. Assist schools and communities to promote active transportation and improve their AT infrastructure (walk this way signs/ bike racks/secure bike parking areas) Funding for walking school bus “drivers”, signage, bike racks, mini events and incentives. Total Amount: $25,500 Reach- all interested schools for mini events, 60 children on walking school bus routes. Lead: Earthcare Sudbury Partners: CGS Children Services, Sudbury Student Consortium, Sudbury Housing, Sudbury Cyclists Union, Rainbow Routes, School Boards, Student Placements

10 Active Tweens- Drop-in Play for 10-12 year olds Objectives- Focus on 10-12 age group, build independence and participation in this age group, help to enhance and increase awareness of Youth Centres/programming, introduce new activities. Description- Make gym/facility time, instructors, snacks available on a weekly basis to youth centres, CSCGS and the YMCA for this age group. Help with promotion to increase participation. Fix policy issues around parental care requirement for this age group. Expand programming to more neighbourhoods Funding for snacks, insurance, instructors, equipment. Total Amount- Jan- June- $32,850 Reach- 7-8 centres, weekly sessions from January- June, up to 30 tweens per session Lead: CGS Community Development Partners: CGS Youth Centres, Best Start Hubs, BBBF, CSCGS, Sudbury YMCA, SDHU, sports/rec. providers, community partners.

11 "Activate your recess/outdoor time" Objectives: Enhance opportunities for physical activity in the regular school/daycare day. Description- Support schools and child care centres to make outdoor time or indoor recess more active. An advisory group for this project will plan how to roll this out. Funding for staff/volunteer training, “audits”, equipment, minor school yard improvements, programming, volunteer/placement student costs, incentives Total Amount- Jan to June $55,000 Reach- 50 child care centres and schools. Lead: CGS Children Services Partners: School Boards, Child Care Agencies, Best Start Hubs, CSCGS, Sudbury YMCA, SDHU, sports/rec. providers, community partners.

12 Winter Wonder- Outdoor Experiences for Students Objectives: Enhance opportunities for outdoor winter physical activity and enjoyment for older children. Description- Subsidize Winter Outdoor-Ed Field trips for classes of grades 4-8 to Lake Laurentian Conservation for 1200 children Funding for field trip fees and subsidized bussing for schools who require it. Total Amount- Jan to March $11,100 Reach- up to 1200 students. Lead: CGS Children Services Partners: Lake Laurentian Conservation Area, School Boards, other community partners.

14 Sudbury Cycles- Supportive Safe Cycling Initiative Objectives: Foundational physical literacy and inclusion/participation, and increased capacity for safe biking. Description: Provide free safety/ bike rodeos learn to bike and bike safety lessons and bike, in three 3 selected neighbourhoods- and provide safe, quality equipment to children who require it. Funding for instructors, “bike exchange”, support, purchasing bikes and safety equipment, snacks Total Amount- April- June $26,000 Reach- 100 children with the comprehensive program, others benefitting from parts of the program. Lead: Sudbury Cyclists Union and CGS Partners: CGS Leisure, CANs, Rainbow Routes, SDHU, sports/rec. retailers, Healthy Kids Partners, community partners.

15 Sudbury swims! Supportive Learn to Swim Objectives: Foundational physical literacy and inclusion/ participation, and increased capacity for safe swimming. Description: Provide free swimming lessons to grade 2/3s at City Pools and the Sudbury YMCA through the schools. School boards will select classes who would benefit the most. Follow up with families about community programs to help their child continue to learn and participate. Funding for additional instructors, bussing. Total Amount- January- March $11,850 Reach- 300 children Lead: CGS Leisure Services Partners: School Boards, CGS Children Services, Sudbury YMCA, community partners, PLAY Program.

16 Sudbury Skates- Supportive Skating Program Objectives- Foundational physical literacy and inclusion/participation Description- Six week, free and supportive learn to skate lessons, in outdoor rinks in three 3 selected neighbourhoods- skate exchange to provide skates and helmets. Follow up with families about community programs to help their child continue to learn and participate. Funding for instructors, skate distribution staff, skates, helmets, pads, equipment, snacks. Total cost: Cost- $21,710.00 Reach- 100 children will be supported to learn to skate, with safe, quality equipment plus additional participants. Lead: CGS Leisure Services Partners: CGS Children Services, Playground Associations, Skate Exhange Partners, community partners, sports retailers, PLAY Program.
