Introduction - Global Compact Network Vietnam - The 10 Global Compact Principles - Integrity and Transparency in Business Initiative for Vietnam 8/ 27/2010

United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) Mission Requiring business leaders to: Push up the implementation of 10 principles in the areas of: Human rights Labor Environment Anti-corruption Support the UN millenium development goals by participating in specific projects and promoting cooperation 8/ 27/2010

Accession criteria Desire: Showing commitment to improve the situation: 10 principles become part of the business strategy, operation and culture Cooperation: Ready to participate in joint activities with concerned parties to support important development objectives (e.g MDGs) Responsibility to report: Sharing with concerned parties once/year on the progress (Progress report) Global Compact Network Vietnam (GCVN) 8/ 27/2010

Global Compact Network Vietnam (GCVN) Established in VCCI cooperates with UNDP to facilitate the operation of the network. A coordination body has been set-up to implement specific activities for encouraging the business community in Vietnam to actively engage in dialogue and comply with 10 principles of the GC. A forum for businesses, business associations, trade unions, NGOs and UN Vietnamese and foreign companies, civil society, NGOs, universities are encouraged to join the network. 8/ 27/2010

3 Components of the Project CBC-CSR 1. CSR promoted in Vietnam through the local GC network and policy advice; 2. CSR embedded in Vietnam through research, training and curriculum development; 3. Stakeholders engaged in partnerships within the GC to advance the MDGs in efficient and strategic ways. 8/ 27/2010

The 10 principles of Global Compact Human rights Principle 1. Businesses should support and respect the protection of internationally proclaimed human rights; Principle 2. Make sure that they are not complicit in human rights abuses 8/ 27/2010

The 10 principles of Global Compact Labor Principle 3. Businesses should uphold the freedom of association and the effective recognition of the right to collective bargaining; Principle 4. The elimination of all forms of forced and compulsory labour; Principle 5. The effective abolition of child labour; and Principle 6. The elimination of discrimination in respect of employment and occupation. 8/ 27/2010

The 10 principles of Global Compact Environment Principle 7. Businesses should support a precautionary approach to environmental challenges; Principle 8. Undertake initiatives to promote greater environmental responsibility; and Principle 9. Encourage the development and diffusion of environmentally friendly technologies. 8/ 27/2010

The 10 principles of Global Compact Anti-corruption Principle 10: Businesses should work against corruption in all its forms, including extortion and bribery. 8/ 27/2010

Integrity and Transparency in Business Initiative for Vietnam To enable companies operating in Vietnam to work as partners to ensure sustainable improvement in integrity and transparency by which business is conducted

8/ 27/2010 Integrity and Transparency in Business Initiative for Vietnam mobilizing the business community in Vietnam to  act collectively to improve the environment for business and  create a consensus to act against corruption; raising the awareness of the need for improvement in business practices; developing standards of policy and practice; facilitating the implementation of improved business practices; and engaging with appropriate government agencies in  addressing the conditions that give rise to corruption and  making proposals for improved standards of regulation and administration.
