Decision Support Tools

Decision Support: About This Presentation Employee engagement in benefit enrollment decisions is an important part of our enrollment strategy. To help employees, we are providing decision support tools as an integrated part of this year’s online enrollment. This deck walks through the tools, how they work, and how they can help employees make more informed enrollment decisions. Use this deck to train your HR team or to inform your employees during enrollment events, meetings, and health fairs Be aware that changing a dependent’s coverage level in the decision support tools will not automatically change it on the Benefits Enrollment site.

Decision Support: Getting Started Ease of Access Decision support tools are available on the Benefits Enrollment site. Simply click the links on the Medical election page. Tools are customized to show the specific plans for which the employee is eligible and the premiums for those plans. From the link, employees will land on this Introduction page, which gives them access to the suite of available tools.

Decision Support: Introduction to the Decision Support Tools Employees can use the tools in any order they prefer, but we have provided a suggested order to get started. Click the Start Tool tab to begin each module. To learn more about a tool, click on the Learn More tab. For this demo, let’s get started with the Medical Cost Calculator.

Decision Support Tool #1: Medical Cost Calculator  Overview What will my costs be for each medical plan? To understand which health plan is most cost- effective for you, it is important to consider both the per paycheck contribution and your out-of-pocket expenses (e.g., copayments, deductibles) for each plan. With the Medical Cost Calculator, you estimate how frequently you expect to use a variety of common services. Based on those estimates, the tool will calculate how much each plan will cost you, including your annualized paycheck contributions and out-of- pocket expenses.

Decision Support Tool #1: Medical Cost Calculator  Select Coverage Level On this Select Coverage Level tab, you will choose the best option for your individual circumstances. The number of dependent columns displayed is based on the coverage level you selected when you entered Decision Support. For estimation purposes, you can change your dependent coverage level at any time within this tool. However, note that changing your dependent coverage level here will not automatically change it on the Benefits Enrollment site.

Decision Support Tool #1: Medical Cost Calculator  Estimate Use Estimate the number of times you and your family will use each of these common medical services in the coming year. The Estimated Cost column provides regionalized (based on ZIP code) costs for each service— this represents the cost without health care coverage. Click the Next button to see your estimated per plan cost based on your expected use.

Decision Support Tool #1: Medical Cost Calculator  View Results The View Results tab allows you to see your estimated costs for each of the medical plans available to you for the plan year. This includes both your annualized employee contribution plus all out-of-pocket costs. You may sort results by Plan Name (shown), Annual Medical Contribution, Out-of- Pocket Cost or Total Cost. Your personal results will be based on the information you entered into the calculator.

Decision Support Tool #2: Preference Module  Overview Which plan best fits my personal health care needs? The Preference Module enables you to consider which features matter most to you and your family and rate the importance of each attribute you select. Plan options are then presented to you in a customized, best- fit order for easy side-by-side comparisons.

Decision Support Tool #2: Preference Module  Select Coverage Level On this Select Coverage Level tab, you will choose the applicable option for your individual circumstances. The number of dependent columns displayed is based on the coverage level you selected when you entered Decision Support. For estimation purposes, you can change your dependent coverage level at any time within this tool. However, note that changing your dependent coverage level here will not automatically change it on the Benefits Enrollment site.

Decision Support Tool #2: Preference Module  Select Attributes The Select Attributes tab lists plan features and asks you to select which are most important to you when choosing a plan. For each you select, you will be asked to rate how important a range of possible plan values are to you. You may select as many attributes as you would like, but the more you select, the longer the tool takes to complete.

Decision Support Tool #2: Preference Module  Make Tradeoffs Unfortunately, you can’t have everything! On the Make Tradeoffs tab, you will be faced with a series of (sometimes difficult) tradeoffs between sets of plan features. You will be asked to select which set you prefer.

Decision Support Tool #2: Preference Module  Results Based on your responses, the tool creates a personalized health plan importance profile. It then scores how well each plan available to you meets your needs, displaying a “preference fit” bar for each. If you’ve already used the Cost Calculator, you will see the plan rank for that tool as well.

Decision Support Tool #3: Comparison Module  Overview It’s important to review plan coverage details when comparing health care plans. The Comparison Module allows you to easily drill down to the precise information you need so that you can obtain the coverage you require at the most cost-effective rate.

Decision Support Tool #3: Comparison Module  Select Coverage Level On this Select Coverage Level tab, you will choose the applicable option for your individual circumstances. The number of dependent columns displayed is based on the coverage level you selected when you entered Decision Support. For estimation purposes, you can change your dependent coverage level at any time within this tool. However, note that changing your dependent coverage level here will not automatically change it on the Benefits Enrollment site.

Decision Support Tool #3: Comparison Module  Select Plans The Select Plans tab lets you choose which plans to include in your comparison. Preference and Cost Calculator ranks for each plan are included if you’ve used these tools previously. Click the Next button to continue.

Decision Support Tool #3: Comparison Module  Select Attributes The Select Attributes tab contains information that lets you choose which plan benefit details to include in your comparison. Select the attributes— categorized by cost, access, benefits, and satisfaction—that are important to you in a medical plan, and then click the Next button.

Decision Support Tool #3: Comparison Module  View Results The View Results tab allows you to see a side-by-side comparison of the attributes you selected for each plan available to you. You may filter by Category: Cost, Access, Benefits or Show All. You may also remove plans as you decide which ones are not a best fit for you and your family.

Decision Support Tool #4: Savings Account Estimator Module  Overview The Savings Account Estimator shows the amount you may be able to save by contributing to tax advantaged savings accounts such as HSAs and FSAs. The tool will help you estimate your eligible out- of-pocket costs so that you can determine whether to contribute to and how much to contribute to these accounts.

Decision Support Tool #4: Savings Account Estimator Module  Select Plan To get started with the Savings Account Estimator, select the medical plan you are considering enrolling in for the coming year and click on the Select Plan tab.

Decision Support Tool #4: Savings Account Estimator Module  Set Profile The Set Profile tab asks you to provide tax and savings account eligibility profile information. This data will be used to help calculate your contribution limits and estimated tax savings.

Decision Support Tool #4: Savings Account Estimator Module  Estimate Medical Expenses You will then be asked to estimate your costs for categories of expenses for Medical, Dental, Vision, and Dependent Care. On the Estimate Medical Expenses tab, you can estimate your expected expenses for the coming year. If you have used the Medical Cost Calculator previously, you will be able to pull in those results for your medical estimates.

Decision Support Tool #4: Savings Account Estimator Module  Estimate Dental Expenses On the Estimate Dental Expenses tab, you can approximate your expected dental expenses for the coming year. You can click the Add Custom Expense button to assist you. From this page, you can access a list of eligible dental expenses for this type of account.

Decision Support Tool #4: Savings Account Estimator Module  Estimate Vision Expenses On the Estimate Vision Expenses tab, you can estimate your expected vision expenses for the coming year. You can click the Add Custom Expense button to assist you. From this page, you can access a list of eligible vision expenses for this type of account.

Decision Support Tool #4: Savings Account Estimator Module  Estimate Dependent Care Expenses On the Estimate Dependent Care Expenses tab, you can estimate your expected expenses for the coming year. You can click the Add Custom Expense button to assist you. From this page, you can access a list of eligible dependent care expenses.

Decision Support Tool #4: Savings Account Estimator Module  Plan Contributions and View Results On the Plan Contributions and View Results tab, you will see a roll up of all your estimated expenses by savings account. You will be asked to enter the amount you plan to contribute to each account. When you click on the Calculate Savings button, you will be able to view your estimated tax savings. The tool will show you how much you may save by making these contributions.

Saving Your Results: Summary Report Congratulations! You have completed the Decision Support tool process. The overall results, based on your selections, are summarized on the Detailed Results tab. You can use the Summary Results report to view all of your results in one place. You can save these results as a formatted PDF document for printing, ing, and offline reference as you make your benefit enrollment selections this year.
