What is DECA? Answer: DECA is a career-technical student organization that prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges around the globe. DECA originally stood for Distributive Education Clubs of America but we decided to drop that and keep the acronym, “DECA.”

New Logo DECA’s logo embraces the organization’s affinity for the diamond while displaying a bold, modern design. 2010 Unveiled at ICDC in Louisville, KY

Founded in 1946, DECA is a 501(c) not‐for‐profit student organization with more than 185,000 members (in 5,000 schools) in all of the 50 United States, the District of Columbia, Canada, China, Germany, Guam, Hong Kong, Korea, Mexico and Puerto Rico. The United States Congress, The United States Department of Education and state, and district & international departments of education authorize DECA’s programs.

Mission Statement DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality and management.

Guiding Principles The guiding principles are designed to explain how DECA fulfills our mission in two distinct statements: 1.what we do 2. result

DECA’s Comprehensive Learning Program Integrates into Classroom Instruction An integral component of classroom instruction, DECA activities provide authentic, experiential learning methods to prepare members for college and careers. Applies Learning DECA members put their knowledge into action through rigorous project-based activities that require creative solutions with practical outcomes. Connects to Business Partnerships with businesses at local and broader levels provide DECA members realistic insight into industry and promote meaningful, relevant learning. OK, so now I know a little bit about DECA but… Selling your ideas is challenging. First, you must get your listeners to agree with you in principle. Then, you must move them to action. Use the Dale Carnegie Training® Evidence – Action – Benefit formula, and you will deliver a motivational, action-oriented presentation. WHY ME?!?!

DECA Has Money For YOU! DECA's co-curricular Competitive Events Program awards more than $40,000 in cash annually to international competitive event winners! Scholarships in excess of $250,000 annually for students and teachers

Make new friends...

Have fun… Next, state the action step. Make your action step specific, clear and brief. Be sure you can visualize your audience taking the action. If you can’t, they can’t either. Be confident when you state the action step, and you will be more likely to motivate the audience to action.

Develop new skills

Open the doors to new opportunities… To complete the Dale Carnegie Training® Evidence – Action – Benefit formula, follow the action step with the benefits to the audience. Consider their interests, needs, and preferences. Support the benefits with evidence; i.e., statistics, demonstrations, testimonials, incidents, analogies, and exhibits and you will build credibility.

D E C A is just like every thing else in life… You get OUT of it, What you put INTO it!!!!

What will YOU do with this opportunity?
