Hosts any digital resource that can be used to support teaching and learning Provides virtual objects that reference materials (on and offline) held elsewhere Offers the same facilities as a library i.e. search, browse, locate, preview and borrow Offers additional facilities e.g. upload and publish, myLibrary and may package learning objects into assemblies of content Delivers learning objects/packages that can be played in a VLE, and resources for use by tutors e.g. lesson plans Learning & Skills Centre

EDINA Exchange 11 May 2004 Why a JISC repository service? Provides hosting service for JISC- funded content and pointers to content held on other servers Will work within the JISC Information Environment, especially with the HE Academy Connect service (L&T Portal) Part of a landscape of distributed repositories Promotes sharing, re-use and re- purposing of expensive content Stands as a national statement of the importance of creating interoperable, sustainable materials Learning & Skills Centre
