2 What is Global Warming: It is the increase in the average Temperature of the Earth’s near-surface air and oceans in recent decades and its projected continuation. The Global average air temperature near the Earth’s surface rose 0.74 degrees Centigrade (1.33 degrees Fahrenheit during the 100 year period ended in This is mainly due to the observed increase in Greenhouse Gases. What Causes Global Warming? Is it a part of a natural Cycle? Global Warming is caused by the build up of Gases in the atmosphere such as Carbon Dioxide and Methane, which form a sort of a Blanket over the Earth, trapping the heat that would normally escape the atmosphere. The leading Greenhouse Gas is Carbon Dioxide, a pollutant emitted from the burning of Fossil Fuels, such as Coal, Oil, and Natural Gas. While it is true that there has been always some natural climate variability, the changes that are currently underway are unlike anything that has been seen before. Record Levels of Carbon Dioxide are having a far reaching change over our Weather, Sea Levels and Climate. Effects of Global Warming: It can cause Drought, Famine, Rise in Global Sea Levels up to 20 feet, Wild Fires causing extinction of species worldwide.

3 How to Curb Global Warming. Choosing Modern Technology can reduce our use of Fossil Fuels and help protect the planet. The steps given below will help Curb Global Warming, save your money, and Create a Safer Environment for the Future: 1) Drive Smart: A Well Tuned Car with Properly Inflated Tires burns Less Gasoline-Cutting Pollution and saving you money. If you have two cars, drive the one with better gas mileage wherever possible. Better yet, skip the drive, take public transport, walk or Bicycle when you can. 2) Use Bio-Fuel Cars/Hybrid Cars: Use Cars designed to run on Bio- Diesel and or Hybrid Cars which run on Battery Cum Bio diesel, resulting in minimizing emitting of Carbon Dioxide. 3) Support Clean, Renewable Energy: Renewable Energy solutions, such as Wind and Solar Power can reduce our reliance on Coal- Burning Power Plants, one of the largest Sources of Global Warming Pollution in the World. 4) Replace Incandescent Light Bulbs with Compact Fluorescent Bulbs: Compact Fluorescents produce the same amount of light as normal bulbs, but use about a Quarter of Electricity and last Ten Times as long. Each change you make helps clean air today, Curb Global Warming, and save your money on your Electricity Bill.

4 How to Curb Global Warming (Cont’d). 5) Saving Energy at Home is good for the Environment and for your Wallet: Stop wasting Energy on Lighting, Geyser, Air Conditioners etc by Judicious use of the same. 6) Become a Smart Water Consumer: Install low-flow shower heads and faucets and you will use half the water without decreasing performance. 7) Buy Energy Efficient Electronics and Appliances: Replacing an old Refrigerator or an Air Conditioner with an Energy Efficient Model will save you money on your Electricity Bill and Cut Global Warming Pollution. 8) Plant a Tree, Protect a Forest: Protecting Forests is a big step on the road to Curbing Global Warming. Trees breathe in Carbon Dioxide, and breathe out Oxygen. You can take action in your backyard-Planting shade trees around your house will absorb Carbon Dioxide, and slash your summer air conditioning bills. 9) Reduce, Reuse, Recycle: Producing new paper, glass, and metal products from recycled materials saves 70 to 90% of energy and pollution, including Carbon Dioxide, that would result if the product came from virgin materials. Recycling a stack of news papers only 4 feet high will save a good sized tree. Please buy recycled products! 10) Mount a Local Campaign against Global Warming: Educate your community about how it can cut Global Warming Pollution. Support measures at the National Level that: a) Make Automobiles go further on a gallon of Gas b) Accelerate the use of clean, renewable energy sources like Solar and Wind Energy. c) Increase Energy Efficiency and Conservation. d) Preserve Forests around the World and Plant more Trees. 11) Return Carbon to the Ground: Convert Coal into a Clean Burning Gas and Capture and Dispose Off Carbon Dioxide deep Underground, dramatically reducing air pollution from this dirtiest of Fuels.
