Personal Protective Equipment and Programs Section D of the Forest Activities code

General requirements: All PPE must be maintained in a safe and effective condition or removed from service. PPE must be inspected before initial use each shift. Defective or damaged PPE must be repaired or replaced. Head protection, required where there is a potential for head injuries from falling or flying objects the employer must provide and require their use. Employees working in or under a vehicle cab or canopy are excluded while in or under, a vehicle.

All employees exposed to the potential hazard of moving lines, falling timber, logs, vehicles, machines and other moving equipment or materials must wear upper body cover and or hard hats of high-visibility color that contrast with the background. Eye and face protection are required where chips, sawdust or flying particles present a hazard. Logger type mesh screens may be used for chain saw operators. Hand protection must be provided and required for employees who are exposed to hazards to their hands. Leg protection is required for employees who use power saws except in trees.

Foot protection All personnel must wear foot protection such as heavy boots, that: Are waterproof or water repellant where wet conditions exist. Cover and support the ankle. Personnel who walk on trees, logs or boomsticks, must wear sharp caulk boots or equivalent. When conditions such as ice, snow, mud rocks etc. render caulks ineffective slip resistant work boots that provide ankle support must be worn.

Hearing protection All personnel must be protected from the effects of noise exposure. Personnel must wear hearing protection unless they are exposed to less than 85 db when: Operating a chain saw or other noise producing device. Working on landings. Personal floatation devices are required when working on or over water.

What would cause PPE to need to be replaced? When are we required to wear high visibility clothing? When is eye protection required? When do we get leg protection replaced? How do we get PPE replaced? When is hearing protection required? Where are the hearing protection devices kept?
