 Some of the most famous tribes of the southwest lived in and were located in Arizona, New Mexico, and Colorado. The most well known tribes of the Southwestern Indians were the Apache, Hopi, Navajo, Pueblo, and Zuni.

 Most scholars believe that the Paleo-Indians arrived in the area between 10,000 and 9,000 B.C. and some tribes are still here today.  Here is a website that explains some of the tribes in depth. native-american-tribes.htm native-american-tribes.htm

 The Americans and Southwestern Indians were not the greatest of friends.  In 1875, after a long time of battling against Mexicans the Americans forced the Tonto Apache to leave the Rio Verde Indian Reserve and the several thousand acres of land that were given to them by the United States Government. The Americans made them walk 180 miles in the winter, flooded rivers. Several hundred of the tribe members had died and only a few hundred made the journey.

 The Paleo- Indians began Indian hunting culture and spread it throughout all of North and South America.

 The Navajo were one of the many tribes to have and odd relationship with the Americans. The Navajo came into official contact with the US in The United States promised to provide donations and to sign a treaty. Later the Navajo leader Narbona was killed while walking to sign the treaty and this caused hostility between both sides.
