Meet Ruby! This is Ruby, She knows everything there is to know about Maths! Make sure you look at her tips, they’re very useful!

Rounding can help… First you look at your sum and see if there are any numbers that can be easily rounded. Then write down that you have rounded it, and remember to write what you added / took away. Do the sum with the new rounded numbers. Take / add to the answer the amount you added / took to make the sum easier. (It is called adjusting the answer.) Ruby Says…

An example ??? + = I’ve added £0.01 to both numbers, so I need to take 2p from my answer. Change to £7 Change to £5 £12 – 2p = £11.98 £7 + £5 = £12 It’s easy to make a mistake carrying numbers so I’ll make the sum easier…
