1 Writing Algebraic Expressions Part 2
SWBAT write algebraic expressions using grouping symbols and the phrase less than. SWBAT write written expressions from algebraic expressions.

2 Do Now: What questions did you find most difficult on the test?
Make a list of any questions you have before we do test corrections tomorrow.

3 AlgebraicWritten Algebraic Expression (x +2) · 5
How can we write this as a written expressions? Let’s break it down into 2 parts. How could you write (x + 2) as a written expressions? The sum of a number and two. Make sure and say “a number” instead of “the sum of n and two” The word sum prompts you to add first. (It is telling us we need the answer. Next we combine the two parts: The sum of a number and two, times five.

4 Practice Write a written expression for (x + 4) ÷ 10
The sum of a number and four, divided by ten Write an algebraic expression for four times the difference of a number and 6 4 · (x – 6) or 4(x – 6)

5 Carrie has 30 fewer dollars than her friend
Carrie has 30 fewer dollars than her friend. Here is a written expression showing the amount of money Carrie has. 30 less than x Which of the following represents this? X – 30 30 - x

6 Your Turn! You have 15 minutes to work with a neighbor to complete the worksheet.

7 Exit Ticket Write an algebraic expression for three times the sum of a number and eight. Write a written expression for the algebraic expression using less than: 9 – n Write an algebraic expression for ten less than the sum of six and a number.
