P ROGRAMME Erasmus Mundus Action 2 programme Co-operation and mobility scheme in the area of higher education co-operation Funded by the European Union Overall objective - achieving better understanding and mutual enrichment between the European Union and Third Countries co- operation in the field of higher education

W HAT ? Lotus III = EMA2 project Scholarships for studying – research – teaching and/or training: Asian nationals  one of the EU partner universities One-way mobility No mobility between EU countries or within Asia Specific aims: Increasing academic competences Improving language skills Increasing social and intercultural competences Improving employability

Objectives EC To promote cooperation between the EU and the Asian countries involved in the project To enable students to benefit from a study/research period abroad and thus to develop a pool from well-qualified, open-minded and internationally experienced young women/men as future leaders To improve the transparency and recognition of studies and qualifications: the project is focused on mobility and will give explicit attention to the promotion of recognition of study systems. To contribute to provide good students from vulnerable groups equal chances and thus disseminating EU social and democratic values To enhance the skills of staff, who can in their turn contribute to the improvement of the education system in their home country To enhance in the medium term the political, cultural, educational and economic links between the EU and the Asian countries involved G ENERAL I NFORMATION

C OMPARATIVE STUDY NATIONALITIES

E LIGIBILITY CRITERIA Applicants need to be nationals of: Cambodia China Indonesia Myanmar Thailand Vietnam Applicants must not have resided nor carried out their main activity (studies, work,...) for more than a total of 12 months over the last 5 years in 1 of the European countries (not for staff!) Sufficient knowledge of language of instruction at host university Undergraduate students must have successfully completed at least one year of studies in their home institution Applicants belong to one of the three eligible target groups Those who were abroad with other Erasmus Mundus projects can only reapply for a different type of mobility !

T ARGET G ROUPS Target Group Target beneficiaries Types of individual mobility flows TARGET GROUP 1 Nationals of the third-countries concerned by the geographical lot who are registered in one of the third-country HEIs that is a member of the partnership. Bachelor, master, doctorate, post- doctorate, staff TARGET GROUP 2 Nationals of the third-countries concerned by the geographical lot, who: are registered/work in a higher education institution of these countries that is not included in the partnership (students and staff); have obtained a university degree or equivalent by an institution of these countries (students only). This includes the possibility of providing mobility opportunities to third-country nationals working in public administration, public and private enterprises and non-profit organisations. master, post- doctorate, PhD, staff TARGET GROUP 3 Nationals of the third countries concerned by the geographical lot who are in particularly vulnerable situations, for social and political reasons. For example: 1.having a refugee status or asylum beneficiaries (international or according to the national legislation of one of the European recipient countries) or 2.it can be proved that they have been the object of unjustified expulsion from university on racial, ethnic, religious, political, gender or sexual inclination or 3.they belong to an indigenous population targeted by a specific national policy or IDPs (Internally Displaced Persons) undergraduate, master, PhD

O NLINE APPLICATIONS Call for applications open from:  26/09/2012 till 15/02/2013 Start mobility of the grant holders: Ba – Ma: planned for September / October 2013 Ba-Ma students must start at official start of the academic year PhD – Postdoc: in consultation with promoter / supervisor in the host (and home) institution, but the latest by Staff: at any time within life duration of the project No additional documents accepted after deadline  Only language test results up to 1 week later Once submitted, you cannot change the application form anymore
