7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens Beginning March, 2015 9TH GRADE ADVISORY

What is this book? A book written by a recent teenager for teenagers. This books gives you some tools to make, break or create good habits. Brainstorm a list of habits you do in your life right now. (those willing to share with class) List them on the board.

What are habits? Habits are things we do repeatedly. We are hardly aware of most of our habits. Some say – depending on what they are, your habits will either make or break you. We first make our habits, and then our habits make us. - John Dryden

What are the 7 Habits? Habit 1 – Be Proactive Take responsibility for your life. Habit 2 – Begin with the End in Mind Define your mission and goals in life. Habit 3 – Put First Things First Prioritize and do the most important things first. Habit 4 – Think Win-Win Have an “everyone can win” attitude.

What are the 7 Habits, Cont? Habit 5 – Seek First to Understand, Then to be Understood Listen to people sincerely. Habit 6 – Synergize Work together to achieve more. Habit 7 – Sharpen the Saw Review yourself regularly.

Get in the Habit The 7 Habits can help you: Get control of your life Improve your relationships with your friends Increase your self-confidence Be happy

How are we going to get through this book? We are going to work through snap shots of the material. You will only get out of it what you put into it. It’s about what you are dealing with everyday and can help you be a more productive and ‘happy’ young adult. Participate – ask questions, contribute and ultimately have fun!
