MEASUREMENT

Measurement I can measure length, capacity, and weight in customary units.

Measurement operations/customaryunits/ operations/customaryunits/

Length Inches (in) 12 inches=1 foot (not your actual foot) – You use inches to measure small objects.

Length Feet (ft) and Yards (yd) 3 feet=1 yard – Feet are used to describe height and distance. – Yards are used to describe distance.

Length Miles (mi) 5,280 feet=1 mile – Longer distances (Think travel!) are measured in miles.

Length Let’s talk about the metric system for just a minute. Centimeters – A centimeter is one 100th of a meter, equivalent to inch. Abbreviation: cm

Weight Ounce (oz) Weight is used to measure how heavy an object is.

Weight Pound (lb) A unit of weight equal to 16 ounces ( grams). This girl lost 87 lbs on the Biggest Loser.

Weight Ton (T) A unit of weight equal to 2,000 pounds The average weight of an adult African Elephant is 4.6 Tons.

Capacity –the maximum amount or number that can be received or contained; cubic contents; volume

Capacity Cup (c) a unit of capacity or volume equal to 16 tablespoons or 8 fluid ounces (237 milliliters)

Capacity Pint (pt) A unit of volume or capacity in the U.S. Customary System, used in liquid measure, equal to 1 / 8 gallon or 16 ounces (0.473 liter).

Capacity Quart (qt) 1 quart =¼US liquid gallons 1 quart = 2pints 1 quart = 4 cups ent/cupspintsquartsgallons/

Capacity Gallon (gal)

Capacity

Temperature Degrees A thermometer is used to measure temperature. Temperature is a physical property of matter that expresses the common notions of hot and cold.
