COMMON AND PROPER NOUNS

Noun A noun is a word or word group that is used to name a person, place, thing, or idea.

Compound Noun A compound noun is a single noun made up of two or more words used together. Ex. grandmother, basketball

Proper Noun A proper noun names a particular person, place, thing, or idea that begins with a capital letter. Ex. Christiana Middle School

Concrete Nouns A concrete noun names a person, place, or thing that can be perceived by one or more of the senses. Ex. Music, photograph

Abstract Nouns An abstract noun names an idea, feeling, quality, or characteristic. Ex. love, fun, wisdom

Collective Nouns A collective noun is a word that names a group. Ex. audience, family, class
