Airwave is the largest secure communications network in the world Guaranteed coverage across 99% of the UK, including the most remote areas Multi-layered resilience to ensure communications are maintained, even in extreme circumstances Encrypted network offering high levels of security to prevent unauthorised access The ability to interoperate Responsiveness – 24/7 service availability from a dedicated, specialist organisation

Who uses the Airwave service? 200 customers, in excess of 150K users Category 1 responders –Fire, Police, Ambulance, Local Authorities, Medical practices Category 2 responders –British Energy, Highways Agency, London Underground Key organisations with a role in public safety –Immigration service, Army, Prison Service

The Future - Interoperability

Interoperability with Partner Organisations Only OFCOM approved Public Safety Organisations can use Airwave And must hold a TEA2 licence – via CSIA All “Blue Light” services, MOD and Environment Agency, etc. fully approved But…. Local Authority Emergency Planning Teams and Uniformed Street Wardens, Health Trust Personnel, Gas, Electricity and Water emergency repair teams are generically approved but MUST APPLY TO OFCOM for full approval before they can use Airwave.

The Firelink Project A DCLG project to replace current FRS Radio schemes Delivering and installing a national radio system throughout England, Scotland & Wales by the end of 2009
