Construction Project Management “Tubas Governmental Hospital” Prepared by: Asma’a Abu-Aqel Naheel Al-Naser Presented to: Ir: Barraq Jumaa

Introduction What is a Project? A project is a temporary endeavor undertaken to accomplish a unique product or service with a defined start and end point and specific objectives that, when attained, signify completion. PMBOK definition

What is Project Management? Project management is the application of knowledge, skills, tools, and techniques applied to project activities in order to meet or exceed stakeholder needs and expectations from a project. PMBOK definition

What can go wrong in a Project? The major cause of project failure is not the specifics of what went wrong, but rather the lack of procedures, methodology and standards for managing the project PMBOK definition

The Triple Constraint

Project Management Cycle (PMC)

Work breakdown structure The work breakdown structure defines the product elements (work packages) and their interrelations to each other and to the product. House 1.0 Structure 1.1 Mechanica l 1.2 Sub-str Super str HVAC 1.21 Plumbing Electrical 1.3 Earth work Foundation Str.element Level 2 Level 1 Level 4 Finishing Level 3

The project is "Tubas Governmental Hospital" in tubas city. The building consist four stories, basement floor, ground floor, first floor and second floor. The ground floor and the first floor are the same. General information about building (case study): Total are of the building is 5304 m^2. High of each story is 4.25 m.

General information table Percentage % Elevation (m) Volume(m^3)Area (m^2)floors % Basement floor % Ground floor % First floor % Second floor % Total

Objective: The main objective is: * Understanding the logic of project management & quantity Survey of the project * Know how to use management to reach the most economy, safety, minimum duration and good quality of the project.

The method of construction: In this project two cases was used: First cases: construction all building then make finishing of all building. Second cases: construction and finishing in the same time (e.g. finishing ground floor and construction first floor in the same time).

Tubas governmental hospital 1 Mechanical work 1.2 Civil work 1.1 Superstructure Earth work Structure element foundation Substructure excavation leveling Back fill disposal footing Shear wall Ground slab column Walls Roof slab beams painting tiles plastering Doors and windows Finishing electrical work 1.3

Bottom steel long direction Depth (m) Dimension (m) Number Footing 5ø12mm 10ø12mm8ø12mm *1.0012F1 calculation for foundation: Calculate of concrete: Volume of concrete = number * length * width * depth = 12 * 1.3 * 1.0 * 0.4 = 6.24 m^3

After determine the quantity, duration and dependency between activities then use primavera project to get this result: Cost details: 1. the price for civil work is $ ( 22 %) from total cost. 2. the price for mechanical work is $( 32.7 %) 3. the price for electrical work is $( 19.6 %) 4. the price for equipment and machines $( 25.7 %)

Case one: In the case one the total duration is 765 days Case two: In the case two the total duration is 553 days Note: the total cost is the same in two cases is $1,716,840 but the different in the cash flow Comparison between the two cases:

S curve Case one:

S curve Case two:

Risk cases The risk cases took into consideration are: 1.political situation 2.Money exchange rate Solution: 1. Attempt to provide elements of the project within the same region. 2. Attempt to provide places to store what is enough for a month of work. 3. Currency stabilization as a payment.

The quantity surveying for each activity most be calculated according to Work Breakdown Structure. The management principles must be used to determine the ES, EF, FF and TF for each activity. Cost verses Time is not a problem.

Recommendation we prefer using case two because: Finish this project earlier and during this seven months difference, People in Tubas governorate need to expedite the construction of the hospital because of the occupation and the closure which prevents the exit outside the province in case of emergency, and also because of the lack of adequate medical centers to meet the needs of citizens.

Can you be a good project manager? Ask yourself: Can I say 'NO'? - Can I attack problems as soon as/even before they arise? Can I live unloved? If you do your job well, people will wonder what you do!

Project Management…. Work Smart Not Hard !!!
