Does the European identity exist ? What are or should be its components ?

With the extension of the horizon, the question of the definition of Europe and its identity is more and more analyzed by various authors and journalists. However, this debate has existed for centuries. It exists but it stays in developement

The identity is something which distinguishes us from others. We notice that it does not exist in the classic sense of the term. The identity is also lawful on a more spiritual and more irrational principle, the feeling of membership in the same community, a " will to live together ", resulting from the division of the same values and from the same objectives.

Goals of the EI European identity intends to erase differences between people from different European countries There will be a European president That will mean a peaceful Europe, with no more conflicts...

Why is EI dedicaced to failure ?

Firstly, that is clear that many people don't care about Europe. They just care about their own country But, opposite to this, EI wants to erase the culture of each country and make just one That will never work ! People will surely defend their own culture and traditions.

Another EI goal is to make a pacific Europe. That means no more wars between countries But, remember that most of the wars of the last 300 years were almost INSIDE one country : civil wars, etc...

What should be its components ? Instead of making a list of all the components, we are going to see it with the portrait of a young European conscious of his European Identity. How should be the perfect European citizen ?

It is a European citizen speaking two extra languages plus his mother tongue, and English fluently He has a good historic knowledge of his country the importance of which he measures the importance

TO C To conclude ! Remember three things

The European identity is far from being defined and this vagueness is strongly felt by the current citizens, No one really cares about it, and it is rather of political and intellectual level.

States all seem to feel the desire to give themselves common identical landmarks in a world worrying about the idea that the national identity is insufficient.

The European identity cannot build itself without a voluntary action of the member citizens

European motto : united in diversity European anthem : Ode to joy And don't forget the European day, May, the 9th
