By Ja’Corey Hagger and Devin

Traditional Literature selections are those which have typically been passed down through history either orally (mainly has no author) or through the written word, although many literary examples were first derived from the oral tradition. Included in this genre would be folktales, tall tales, fables, myths, epics, ballads, and legends, and also religious stories from both the reader's culture and cultures different from their own.

A tall tale is a story with unbelievable elements, related as if it were true and factual. Some such stories are exaggerations of actual events Ex. Paul Bunyan, Pecos Bill, Johnny Appleseed, John Henry, and Old Stormalong

Fables are brief stories meant to teach a lesson, and they are usually concluded with a moral Ex. The Tortoise and the Rabbit, The Fox and the Crow, and The Fox and the Grapes
