Color to match the petals to the left. Fairy tales Myths Legends Tall tales Fables Cut around the entire perimeter Put it face down on your desk then fold the petals with the folktale genres written on them towards the center with the words facing up.

5 What are Folktales? Copy this definition at the bottom of your page.
a story set in the past that has been passed down from generation to generation

6 Fairy Tale a folktale that takes place in a magical land ruled by royalty; the characters are either good or evil and almost always has a happy ending Examples: Cinderella, Snow White, Beauty & the Beast, Yeh-Shen Once Upon a Time...

7 Tall Tale a folktale with unbelievable exaggerations told as if it were true and meant to be humorous Examples: Pecos Bill, Johnny Appleseed, Paul Bunyan Paul Bunyan

8 Fable a very short folktale where the characters are usually personified animals that teaches a moral or a lesson Examples: Aesop’s Fables, The Tortoise and the Hare, The Boy Who Cried Wolf Toirtoise and The Hare

9 Legend usually has some connection to a real historical person or event, combining factual and fictional events with exaggerations that are not meant to be humorous Examples: King Arthur (The Sword in the Stone), Robin Hood, Johnny Appleseed Johnny

You will be reading 2 folktales. Each (singular indefinite pronoun) folktale has its own assignment to complete. These two activities will be compiled into your LAST quiz grade. Take a few minutes to scan the stories. Choose your two stories and activities.

14 Today’s Activities… Silent Step One: Quiet Step Two:
Select and read BOTH of the stories you plan to complete a project for. Work on creating your project. While we’re not requiring ink like we did for Bingo, consider that you are turning in a final copy that will be your FINAL quiz grade for the year.
