The verb can Auxiliary or Modal Verb Means: it is a verb, in this case here an irregular verb can-could-could All modal verbs can function as a normal verb as in: Yes, I can. They can also function as modal verbs as in: Can you play soccer?

The verb have Normal verb: I have ten million dollars Modal verb: Form a question: Have you been to…?

The verb to be Normal verb: I am in Ochsenfurt Modal verb  You can form English tenses: I am swimming at the moment.
