Dictionary Lesson Finding and Defining Words

Brainstorm a location Think of a place or location –Example – the classroom

Brainstorm some words Think of words that relate to that place or location –Example – Desk, Chair, Shelf, Ruler

Put your words in alphabetical order List all your words in order with words starting at the beginning of the alphabet first. –Example: Chair Desk Ruler Shelf

Use a dictionary to find your words Use the guide words to help. These are the words at the top of each page

Find your word – Chair

Record the definition of your word Chair – seat with a back meant for one person

Now you try it 1.Think of a place or location 2.Think of 10 words that relate to that place or location 3.Put your list of words in alphabetical order 4.Use a dictionary to find each word 5.Record each word’s definition
