Red Hill is the National Memorial of Patrick Henry. It was Patrick Henry’s final home and also his burial site.

Red Hill is home to the largest collection of replicated Patrick Henry belongings.

Built by Richard Marot Booker in the 1770’s. It had five rooms, three downstairs and two upstairs. When Patrick Henry was alive, it is believed to have possibly housed between nine and eleven family members. Two of Patrick Henry’s daughters were married in the main room. There is a replica of a Chippendale corner chair in which Patrick Henry past away.

A BedroomThe Dining Area

When Patrick Henry was not healthy enough to practice law in an actual court, he retired to his home at Red Hill. He had his own private law office where anyone who wanted advice could reach him. The law office provided a quiet place for Henry to work within very short distance from the main house, and could also serve as guest quarters when needed.

Two slaves, Harrison and Milly lived in the slave cabin. They were the cook and the coachmen for the Henry family. Inside the cabin you can now see some of the tools that they used when working around the plantation.

This is where the cook, Milly, made food for the Henry Family.

This is where Patrick Henry’s family kept their carriages.

The Henry family needed a blacksmith shop to make tools for working around the plantation so they didn’t have to go so far from the property for repairs and new things.

Many common vegetables and plants were grown along the plantation. Corn, beans, and tobacco were definitely grown on Red Hill.

Located along the Quarter Place Trail through the woods of the plantation. This is where they hung the tobacco and cured it with heat from woodstoves.

Close UpActual Size The Osage Orange Tree is 65 ft. tall and it’s branches span more than 90 ft. It’s the largest Osage Orange Tree in America.

He’s buried beside his second wife, Dorothea Dandridge Henry. Also buried in the cemetery are his youngest son, John Henry, and his wife, Elvira McClelland Henry.
