2 *Patrick was a distinguished statesman and orator during the American revolution. *Henry’s public schooling was brief, for his education was taken over by his father, a well educated gentleman. *Henry first tried being a storekeeper but proved to be a poor businessman. He then turned to law and received his license in 1760. *Gaining fame as an orator, Henry was elected to the Virginia House of Burgesses where he became leader.

3 1736-1799 In between these years political leader in the American revolution, b. Hanover., Virginia. Largely self- educated, he became a prominent trial lawyer. Henry bitterly denounced the stamp act and in the years that followed helped fan the fires of revolt in the south. As an orator he knew no equal. Several phrases attributed to him “ if this be treason, make the most of it. And “ give me liberty or give me death” are familiar to all Americans Henry became leader among the so called radicals and spoke clearly for individual liberties.

4 Where Patrick lived Patrick was born in Hanover county, Virginia so he lived there for awhile with his family In 1794 he moved to red hill with his second wife.

5 Mr. Henry’s Reconstructed home Patrick Henry moved to red hill in 1794. The home is a simple one and a half story structure that dates from the 1770s. With its three rooms downstairs and two upstairs- a children's loft- this was home for the Henry family (at one point, as many as twenty family members live under this roof.

7 Burial(tombstone) Henry died June 6, 1799, at the age of 63 and is buried in the family cemetery at red hill. On his gravestone are carved the words, “ His fame his best epitaph” Beside Patrick Henry is buried his second wife, Dorothea Dandridge Henry.
