Success Criteria  I MUST be able to write a Modern English Prologue for “Romeo and Juliet”.  I SHOULD be able to choose symbols to include in a poster for a performance of “Romeo and Juliet”.  I COULD start my own poster.

The Big Question  What do we mean when we use the term symbolise?

Homework  You need to bring in any pictures or symbols that you want to include in the poster you will be producing next lesson. You can also bring in your own coloured pencils and pens.

Starter  Write down a list of the details that you would need to include on a poster advertising a performance of a play. You will need to use this list later in the lesson e.g. date, time etc.

Task 1  Now that you understand what the Prologue from “Romeo and Juliet” was telling the audience, about the play that they were about to watch, you need to rewrite it in Modern English. Write down your version in your exercise book.

Task 2  You have written the Prologue to tell the audience what the play will be about but nowadays we also have posters. You will be designing and producing a poster to advertise a performance of “Romeo and Juliet” next lesson. We are going to plan our posters now. We need to think very carefully about the colours and symbols that we need to include.

Symbols and Colours  We use specific colours and symbols to represent ideas. Heart-LoveDove-Peace Red-Love/Passion/Anger White-Purity/Innocence Green-Envy/Jealousy
