Follow-Up to Values & Interests Surveys You will need your two surveys from November FBHS Advisory, Fall 2012 Careers

Why is the topic of career so important? You spend more than a ¼ of your life there. The choice should be made considering MANY things. A few are: Personality Interest Skills Values

Things to Consider When Choosing a Career What you are good at AND what you enjoy. Do you want to be inside or outside? Do you want a set schedule (gold)? Work your own hours? Ask yourself if work is just for money or do you need fulfillment in what you do (blue)? Do you want to travel? Be away from family, home, etc. Do you want stability (gold people) or adventure (orange)? Do you want to continue learning through career (green)? What are you excited about?????

Please get out your two surveys Review your characteristics from your color test. Review your interests survey AND the careers you brainstormed. On the back of either paper draw a T chart (or fold the paper in half hotdog way). This should create two long columns. Left side – list careers you know you are interested in. Right side – list careers you might be interested in (you may add to this as we go through the activities this week). You will continue to add to both lists!

For the rest of the week……. As a class you will explore numerous careers based on the interests/personalities in the room. You will create/modify/add to your personal list. Even if you think you aren’t interested in a particular career – listen. You never know what might spark your interest. Once you finish your list – it will be added to your Advisory Folder for future use.

Career Exploration If you know the job or industry you want information about: If you know the things that interest you:
