More education = more pay You have looked very generally at what time of job might interest you. Realistic, investigative, artistic, social, enterprising and/or conventional

SO NOW YOU NEED SOME PAPER Obtain a piece of paper and a writing utensil. Fold your paper once and then again to create four equal boxes. You will be writing information on four interesting careers over the next several days. Please pace yourself to find four careers that are interesting to you and/or are possibilities.

NOW LET’S LOOK AT SPECIFICS You can visit this website to explore the Occupational Outlook Handbook and explore different careers on your own or with your advisory class. http://www.bls.gov/ooh/ Once here make sure you: Take notes on your paper on careers that are interesting to you. This will help you in the fall when you are thinking about post secondary training.

DAY 1 – TODAY Let’s look at careers based on projected jobs. What does that mean? These are jobs that statistics show that will be growing in the next ten years. That the number of jobs available will be high. http://www.bls.gov/ooh/most-new-jobs.htm http://www.bls.gov/ooh/fastest-growing.htm Then you can click on the job title and look at pay, education, etc. Don’t forget about taking notes!

DAY 2 Let’s look at careers based on required education. What does that mean? This will sort careers based on the education you select. Box is on right half of screen. Select different amounts to see what’s available. Then you can click on the job title and look at pay, education, etc. Don’t forget about taking notes!

DAY 3 Let’s look at careers based on pay. What does that mean? You only care about money http://www.bls.gov/ooh Then you can click on the job title and look at specific pay, education requirements, etc. Don’t forget about taking notes!

DAY 4 Let’s look at the featured occupation. What does that mean? These might not be jobs you have thoughts of http://www.bls.gov/ooh In the middle of the page there is a photo and a link. Check out this career and then refresh – it will give you another career. Then you can click on the job title and look at specific pay, education requirements, etc.

WHAT WERE YOU INTERESTED IN? Look at your paper. What four jobs did you find interesting? Everyone can share out one, including one fact about that career. Complete the reflection form. This is to help jog your memory in the fall. Put all of these papers together and staple. Place them in the advisory box.
