Purpose  Get kids excited about current books.  Provide a collaborative activity with other middle schools in the district and the Baldwin Public Library

Annual Newbery Award  Awarded each year in January for the best book written by an American author  Chosen from hundreds of books that are published in a given year  The winner is chosen by a panel of Adults

How is it going to work?! grade students 10 current titles Kickoff beginning in February Check out 1 st book on Feb. 13 th Read from Feb. 13– April 20 rd Read 4 books get to vote for the school Birbery on April 25 th School Birbery winner will be announced on April 26 th

Program Cont’d  District Birbery announced May 2  April 27 th Finale at Baldwin Public Library  9 students to be chosen to participate in the finale (3 from each School)  Read all 10 books to participate and pass 10 quizzes with 80% or higher to be eligible for drawing to be a representative at the district meeting..  Name will go in a drawing = 3 students picked from each school.

Baldwin Finale - April 27 th  Ride to Baldwin in a limo  Met at the door by Baldwin staff, balloons, etc. Principals, superintendent, other administrators  Lunch and discussion of the books with the public lib. staff  Vote on the district Birbery winner

Finale Cont’d  Announce the winner = this will be video taped  Celebration in the media center  Read 3 books and voted in school election  Enjoy a treat while the district winner is announced
