I chose the styling industry because… I have always been interested in fashion I wanted to find out about some creative and artistic careers that are not just being an artist. I have family friends that are costume designers and I wanted to see what (or if) there were any differences

How did I set up this interview? Contacted my cousin Desiree, who has lots of fashion experience (owns her own boutique and her own clothing line) about her stylist friend that I had met before. Desiree suggested I meet with her other friend (Negar) that she thought I would like more. She gave me Negar’s information and I contacted her and made a time to meet her at her house in Hollywood over break.

What questions did I ask in the interview? How did you get started in your career? Where did you go to school? Did you always know you wanted to work in fashion? What do you like least/best about your job? What is a typical day for you? What skills are best to have for this job? Does your job require lots of traveling? Would you say a degree in fashion would help for this career?

What I learned The different skills needed for this career (such as people skills, multi tasking, working under high stress situations) How much work actually goes into each photo, film and event that requires styling. I would love to pursue this career, or a career close to it such as costume design or art direction of film/magazine. The best education for this job is experience such as jobs and internships. But studying business would also help.
