Presentation to Trailhead Ontario June 18, 2012 Canadian Trails Federation (CTF) by John Cushing, President

CTF Structure Formed in Consist initially of Provincial and Territorial Trail Associations More recently, Trail User Groups (Equine Canada, All Terrain Quad Council of Canada have joined; today Communities in Bloom

CTF Vision (2010) CTF is a united voice for trails throughout Canada which will link communities and meet the needs of diverse cultures and trail users for their outdoor recreation and healthy living.

CTF Mission Promote recreatinal use of trails Create conditions to the development of sustainable trails Sharing information and resources Promote responsible use of trails

CTF Goals Be the pre-eminent voice on all recreational trails in Canada Establish programs and services responding to the needs of diverse trail groups and stakeholders Strengthen CTF as an organization

What has CTF done? Share information and resources –Teleconference calls; –Distributing information, documents; –Setting up committees

What has CTF done? National Trails Coalition partner Assisted in the creation of the Provincial / Territorial Government Trail Coordinators group Participated in the Leadership Roundtable in Banff (2010); and subsequently in the National Trails Working Group. Participated in the National Trails Survey

What should CTF be doing in the future? Continue in striving to accomplish its Vision: to be the united voice for trails throughout Canada. Broaden its membership to include National Trail Organizations, bringing all national trail groups to the same table to discuss (and resolve) trail issues, and establish policy guidelines.

What should CTF be doing in the future? Continue to be a partner of the Canadian Trails Coalition and advocate for federal funding of trails. Continue in our initiation of a Communications Outreach Program, outlining trail related initiatives throughout Canada.

What should CTF be doing in the future? Set up Committees and means of communications with stakeholders on trail related issues at a national level. Organize Summits (all inclusive).
