MADISON WALLACE Senior Project Teaching at Emerick Elementary(5 th grade)

Objective For my project, it was basically just an extension of teacher cadet. I arrived at Emerick Elementary every day around 7:30 and helped out in Mrs. Lewis’ fifth grade class until the end of the day. I helped grade assignments, make lesson plans, and assist her in teaching the lessons. I picked this project to help give me more insight into my future career choice of an elementary school teacher. My time spent at Emerick helped to assure me that teaching is what I want to do. I’m glad I had this opportunity to solidify my decision because this experience.

Hardest thing about my project It was difficult making some of the lesson plans because I had to make sure I incorporated activities where all learning styles would benefit. (i.e. visual, auditory, and kinesthetic). I ended up doing literature circles where I placed them in their reading groups based on their reading level and assigned books to each group that I had to pick out (with assistance from my teacher though).

Best thing about my project I’m so glad that I was able to become close with a lot of the students in my class. Since I was in the same classroom for teacher cadet, I really got to know them and their personalities. They were really sad when it was my last day, and I didn’t realize how much I appreciated having them be apart of my experience. They definitely made me look forward to being a teacher and having a class of my own one day.
