1 Pros and Cons Technology in the Classroom

2 Pros: Technology in Classrooms Students will be more excited about learning. Students will want to improve more in their studies and grades. Students become more familiar with the internet and on how to do research on their own for future projects and research papers. Students with special needs are able to work at their own pace with the help of technology. Students who are handicapped can use technology to help them communicate better. Schools can get grants to help pay for technology in classrooms. Getting trained helps teachers become more comfortable on how to use technology correctly.

3 Cons: Technology in Classroom Schools can end up spending hundreds of thousands of dollars. Teachers may become overwhelmed with the amount of time they spend on coming up with lesson plans that involve using technology. Incorporating technology with the topics educators are teaching may be difficult. There needs to be a technology staff that is available to assist teachers if they have technical difficulties. Some students may browse through the internet looking at other web sites instead of doing an assignment or an activity. Training teachers takes time. Some teachers may be unwilling to go through the technology training.

4 Solutions! The best solution is to see if technology benefits the educator and their teaching methods. Some teachers may be more comfortable teaching from the text book and coming up with their own activities that do not involve technology. Teachers who are willing to get properly trained and who are able to come up with creative lesson plans may benefit more with the use of technology. The teacher can help multiple students at a time, help improve the students’ motor and mental skills, and see if the students are enjoying or are falling behind in the activity. Make sure the teacher is properly trained, is able to help their students, and knows how to use their knowledge effectively in technological activities.
