Warwickshire County Council On 31 st May, a TV programme showed members of staff hitting, shouting, and hurting people with learning disabilities at Winterbourne View hospital This is called abuse Abuse is wrong No-one should be abused

Warwickshire County Council What actions were taken straight away. Winterbourne View Hospital closed on 24 th June 2011 The Police and Safeguarding Board were asked to find out what happened and why the staff abused people

Warwickshire County Council Some support workers went to court and some others were sacked. People went to jail because of what they had done Warwickshire County Council What actions were taken straight away

Warwickshire County Council The Department of Health wanted to find out what happened at Winterbourne View from all the people and organisations that had something to do with the patients at the hospital so they asked for a report What the report looked at The Care Quality Commission report The South Gloucestershire Council Serious Case Review The NHS Serious Untoward Incident Investigations Other cases where things have gone wrong before

Warwickshire County Council It is very important to check that people with learning disabilities are safe if they are having treatment in hospitals like Winterbourne View It is also important that the commissioners know how many people with learning disabilities are being looked after a long way from their family home The NHS and Warwickshire County Council are working together on this

Warwickshire County Council Making sure we do what the report says needs to happen 1 st April 2013 – Register of everyone who lives out of Warwickshire County that we are responsible for. 1 st June 2013 – Review, everyone to have a support plan. 1 st June 2014 – People live in the Community. “Arden Cluster Action Group” for Winterbourne View Warwickshire County Council
