What is CCR? ‘Consultancy and Commercial Research’ Consultancy – application of existing knowledge to solve a problem Commercial Research – non grant research, usually for client benefit How do I know if OR or GE? Ask! Look – if not on ACGR then likely GE Ask/look first (unless you like pain!) GRIFFITH ENTERPRISE Value through Enterprise

Benefits Easier to access (no track record) May count under Research Active Standards Helps id industry partners Builds track record Builds publication record Creates surplus funds See your work make an impact GRIFFITH ENTERPRISE Value through Enterprise

Benefits Full Costing, in fact…for a profit! (surplus) Flexible pricing May help fund position Griffith provides… Commercial advice and assistance Legal review and advice Covered by insurance GRIFFITH ENTERPRISE Value through Enterprise

CCR Benefits Research Active Standards Includes research funding from any source valued at $10,000 or greater Each $10,000 research CCR counts as 1 full Research Output Unit (>$100,000 as 2) Includes projects over previous 5 years Applies to actual income received / invoiced Funding for research component only (as defined under HERDC guidelines) GRIFFITH ENTERPRISE Value through Enterprise

Where do I start? Budget Tool / Approval Form

How does GE assist? GE Tools & Services Standard contract templates CCR Form doubles as a budget/pricing tool and approval Proposal templates (for large or small proposals) Tender alert service CCR Workshops Commercialisation advice – experienced team

Finding Opportunities GRIFFITH ENTERPRISE networks – industry conference, professional body, etc online - advertisements and company websites tenders - open or invited (subscribe to GE alerts) newspapers

What about Tenders? Tenders can be for specific projects or for panels, issued by public or private sector clients GE provides you with: Tender alerts to your inbox each week Preparation assistance – including coordination, templates, budgeting, contract review, managing submission and feedback Connections across the University, enabling you to build multi-discipline tenders

The Proposal Toolbox A Coordination Plan Cover Page and Cover Letter Templates Modular Proposal Templates CV and Project Experience Templates Costing Tool (CCR Proposal Form) FAQs about proposals Guide on ‘how to request feedback’ LINK TO TOOLBOX: enterprise/consultancy-commercial-research/proposal-toolbox enterprise/consultancy-commercial-research/proposal-toolbox

Tools for Success GRIFFITH ENTERPRISE Commercial CV Succinct Project Experience Brochures Knowledge of the client’s needs Professional Proposals Deliver what the client wants Provide options Plain English (multiple reviewers) Look and feel

Managing Project Teams GRIFFITH ENTERPRISE Adjunct staff are not employees, therefore need: to be on a paid appointment, or a sub-contract in place Students own their IP and have rights. To participate they May be required to assign their IP to GU, & be on a paid appointment or sub-contract arrangement Always talk to GE in relation to student rights, IP ownership, publication The surplus amount is ‘indicative’ only Do not approve access to surplus until the end of the project Agree to the % distribution of surplus upfront but remember that the amount can and usually does change

Managing Project Teams GRIFFITH ENTERPRISE Project leader has overall responsibility to deliver project, manage the team and ensure contract compliance: As such the project leader may need to: Change the team composition in light of non-availability, poor performance, or changed requirements Obtain any approvals (eg project and ethics approvals) Identify and manage conflicts of interest Manage publication of project outcomes

Project Leaders Make your Head of Element aware of planned projects so that any issues can be addressed early Contact GE for assistance as soon as you are aware of a potential project Never agree on a project price with your client before contacting GE Discuss preferences for publishing and IP ownership (if applicable) early with GE and your clients Obtain internal approvals and contract sign-off before project commencement Dean (Academic) must provide approval for staff replacement
