5 WHAT IS RIO? RIO (the Research Innovation Office) mainly focuses on academic staff at UTS. RIO helps UTS academics to: Gain external funding and set up research contracts with funders; Ensure that they are doing ethical research; Get their research publications and research income counted in national assessments of University research (HERDC and ERA)  global rankings; Commercialise IP developed by academic staff; Gain ‘outcomes’ from research ‘outputs’ - Impact; Develop research policy and support research governance. uts.edu.au
