Professional framework for public sector employees Using the framework

Purpose of the framework Outline the behavioural expectations of public sector employees Guide attraction selection and retention processes Enable public sector staff to clearly see the range of capabilities required by the department and the wider service Provide a reference point for decision-making on appropriate professional development

Professional framework for public sector staff

The indicators For each of the five key capabilities there are indicators. These are intended to be a menu of the underlying behaviours expected – not a definitive checklist. There are significant differences in the context and complexity of people’s work across the department. The indicators describe the essential skills and abilities of all public sector employees despite these differences. They are representative of the minimum capabilities required of public sector employees and build along a continuum in terms of the amount and extent required of staff.
