Purpose The purpose of the Club Leadership Plan is to strengthen Rotary at the club level by providing the administrative framework of an effective club.

How did this new plan come into existence? Rotary International extensively pilot tested the Club Leadership Plan in various areas throughout the Rotary world. Over the last two years Rotary International has been implementing the new Club Leadership Plan. Documents and Club Formats have been changed to fit the new plan. The new Leadership Plan was adopted by the District 5370 in the 2006/07 Rotary year.

Why should your club consider the new structure? The new club leadership plan is the recommended administrative structure for Rotary Clubs. The plan helps a club focus their efforts on service rather than on administration. The plan provides for better succession planning and continuity. The Club Leadership Plan is flexible. With proper planning the Club Leadership Plan can be implemented at any time.

The Plan is Based on Rotary’s Best Practices, and will help your club: Develop long-range goals Set annual goals Involve more club members Communicate Customize bylaws as needed Offer regular and consistent training Provide regular fellowship opportunities Why should your club consider the new structure?

Suggested Club Standing Committees* Club Administration Membership Club Public Relations Service Projects The Rotary Foundation * Additional committees can be appointed as needed on an annual basis Club Board

District 5370 used the Leadership Plan and structured their 2006/07 committees this way: Administration Membership Marketing & Club Public Relations Services The Rotary Foundation District Board Assistant Governors

Develop a long-range plan that addresses the elements of an effective club. Set annual goals using the Planning Guide for Effective Rotary Clubs in harmony with the long-range plan. Conduct club assemblies that involve members in planning and keeps them informed about Rotary. How can my club adopt the new structure?

Ensure clear communication between the club president, board, committee chairs, club members, district governor, assistant governors, and district committees. Provide for continuity in leadership, including the concept of succession planning to ensure development of future leaders. How can my club adopt the new structure?

Amend bylaws to reflect the club committee structure and roles and responsibilities of club leaders. Provide opportunities to increase fellowship among members of the club. Ensure that every member is active in a club project or function. How can my club adopt the new structure?

Develop a comprehensive training plan that ensures: Club leaders attend district training meetings Orientation is consistently and regularly provided for new members Ongoing educational opportunities are available for current members How can my club adopt the new structure?

July 1: Implement the plan:  Club committees work to pursue the club’s goals. January 1: Assess the plan:  Club leaders and members review their leadership plan and make any necessary adjustments, including revisions to the bylaws. May 1: Prepare for the following year:  As incoming club leaders prepare for the upcoming year, the club makes any needed revisions to its leadership plan. The club’s long- range goals and bylaws are also reviewed. When Your Club is Ready to Go:

When describing Committees, word it so future leaders have flexibility to make changes without re-doing the bylaws each time. Don’t reinvent the wheel…..many clubs in the District have changed their bylaws to reflect the new Club Leadership Plan. Your Club Bylaws must reflect the changes to the Club Leadership Plan
