Presentation transcript:

What should I put as a priority on my timetable? Your class times at MIT – this includes tutorials, labs, workshops etc. Things that you are absolutely committed to that you can’t get someone else to do for you – e.g. childcare, sport training, church activities etc. Study time – this time doesn’t include time in classes. This is the time that you put aside to do homework, go through notes, do assignments etc.

How many hours should I have for personal study time? As much as you can, taking into account all the other things that you are committed to. A rough guideline is 2:1 – for every 1 hour of MIT class time, set aside 2 hours for study time. REMEMBER: it’s not so much how much time you have on paper, but how you USE it that counts!

What if I just can’t get any more study time in? Start sharpening your study skills. Even if you are limited in the amount of hours that you can devote to study, you can put good study skills into place that will help you make the most of the time that you do have. Go through the ‘LEARNING STYLES’ resources through our eMIT pages. Knowing your preferred learning style and the strategies that can help you study better will help you maximise your study hours.

How can I save time? Plan ahead. Taking 10 minutes to plan your day looking at the different things you will do SPECIFICALLY can save you hours in the long run. Delegate. Get somebody else to do things for you so you can use that time for something else. E.g. housework, shopping, picking up the kids. Delay. If there is something that can be done later (i.e. it’s not a priority), then make a time to do it later when you are not so busy.

Time Saving Tips… Plan your meals ahead of time so that you don’t have to spend so much time thinking about it. If you can, cook ahead and freeze. Delegate duties to other people As much as possible, limit time that you spend on the phone or watching t.v. Keep a TO DO list on the fridge and tick off each thing as it gets done Use your diary!! Stay focused on tasks at hand – try not to get side tracked
